A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in honor of the new partnership between Clearwater High School and St. Petersburg College, who will call Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater their new home baseball field. Clearwater For Youth provided a $25,000 grant for the project, which matched five $5,000 donations including those from the Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto Blue Jays. CFY’s Board of Trustees’ Chairman, Brian Aungst, and his wife, Karen Aungst, were honored as Mr. and Mrs. Clearwater at the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 95th Annual Meeting at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort. On Saturday, July 2nd, CFY was honored at the Tampa Bay Ray’s home game. The 2016 Don Zimmer Memorial $5,000 Scholarship recipient, Harrison Long (a recent graduate of Palm Harbor University High School) was recognized in addition to our most recent Excellence in Youth Sportsmanship Award recipients. We would like to thank the Tampa Bay Rays, Soot Zimmer, our CFY Chairman, Brian Aungst; CFY board members, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Michele Smith, Ray’s VP of Communications, Rick Vaughn, and everyone that helped #RaysUp for CFY!
